Conservation charity sponsorship aims to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders

26 Feb, 2026

Teledyne Valeport is pleased to announce a year-long sponsorship of UK-registered charity Westcountry Rivers Trust (WRT), which protects, conserves, and restores rivers across the South West.

The funding, from the manufacturer of oceanographic and hydrographic instruments, will be used to deliver educational workshops, field-based conservation sessions, and career-focused engagement opportunities in the environmental sector.

Building on more than five decades of innovation in environmental measurement, Teledyne Valeport has a strong track record of supporting marine conservation initiatives, including long-term involvement in local seagrass and coastal habitat restoration programmes. This new partnership marks a natural progression in Teledyne Valeport’s commitment to protecting the waters that sustain both nature and communities.

The sponsorship programme will focus on education and engagement, giving young people practical skills and inspiring future careers in the environmental sector.

Key initiatives include an increased focus on green careers, with attendance at career events during the 2025/26 academic year to highlight pathways into the environmental sector, alongside practical environmental skills sessions for young people in Devon and Cornwall. The CSI Youth Programme will also be rolled out through educational workshops and training focused on water quality monitoring, giving young people the opportunity to take part in river-based practical sessions and gain hands-on experience in river conservation. In addition, regular attendance at community engagement events will be expanded, enabling participation in more workshops and “Bio Blitzes” that connect communities with their local rivers and highlight the importance of water quality monitoring.

Carolyn Jones at Teledyne Valeport, said: “Supporting Westcountry Rivers Trust allows us to connect our expertise in water science with the education of future environmental professionals. By investing in young people today, we’re helping to build the skills and passion our industry - and our environment - will need for the future.”

Helen Staddon at Westcountry River Trust, added: “This sponsorship will directly help us to inspire and enthuse the next generation of environmental stewards. With Teledyne Valeport’s support, we can provide more school sessions, and more opportunities for young people to actively engage in river conservation.”
