An Oklahoma firm has been ordered to stop breaching environmental legislation by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The EPA has issued the Robinowitz Oil Company of Osage County, Oklahoma, with a cease and desist administrative order for violations of the federal Clean Water Act.

Having inspected the firm's oil field production facility in Osage County on August 21st, the EPA discovered an unauthorised discharge of oil field brine into Little Hominy Creek generated by production activities.

It was also found that water located at the discharge point of entry into the waterway was polluted with brine discharges and salts.

These findings led the EPA to order the family business to cease discharging pollutants and remove all brine and contaminated soils from the flow path located between the facility and Little Hominy Creek.

It will be required to provide the EPA with written certification of the completion of these activities within 30 days.
