Servomex (UK), specialists in gas analysis, have announced the appointment of Charles “Chuck” Hurley to the position of Managing Director.

Mr Hurley, 39, takes over the role from former Managing Director Chris Cottrell, who is retiring from his position after six years leading Servomex through an unprecedented period of growth and success.

A former Director of Service with Zellweger Analytics and VP Service, Honeywell Analytics, Mr Hurley joined Servomex in 2008 as General Manager, Americas, before being promoted to Director of Sales and Marketing in 2012. In his new position, Chuck will bring his proven experience in top-level strategic management to leading a global team of 375 staff, based in two technical centres and six regional business centres.

An MA graduate in Economics from Eastern Illinois University, Chuck is relocating to the UK, where he will run operations from Servomex’s UK Technical Centre in Crowborough, East Sussex. He assumes the position of Managing Director on July 8.

“I am delighted to take up the position of Managing Director at Servomex, building on the success achieved by Chris to lead us to the next stage of our development. Servomex has ambitious goals as we continue to grow presence and market share, with initiatives and innovations that will continue to place the customer at the very centre of our business focus. Leading Servomex forward is a great honour and I look forward to be part of its future success.”

Mr Cottrell, 65, is stepping down from his position to spend more time with his family and continue professionally with a number of non-executive positions. His achievements since joining Servomex in 2008 include leading the Servomex team to establish a global network of business centres, including the opening of new centres in Shanghai, São Paulo, Zoetermeer and Mumbai; the building of a new state-of-the-art Technical Centre in the UK; the acquisition of Contrôle Analytique and Delta F analyser businesses and their integration into Servomex; the launch of key products including the SERVOTOUGH Laser series, SERVOTOUGH Oxy, SERVOPRO MultiExact and SERVOTOUGH SpectraScan analysers; and the creation of the Hummingbird Sensing Technology brand, which markets Servomex sensor technologies to medical and industrial OEM businesses.

“It has been a privilege to be part of the Servomex team at such a pivotal time in its development,” says Mr Cottrell. “The ongoing growth of the business is a source of great satisfaction and I thank all my colleagues across the world for their enthusiasm and support in bringing us to where we are today – the world expert in gas analysis. Additionally, I would like to thank Spectris for their on-going support and commitment to the Servomex brand. As a long-term colleague of Chuck Hurley, I know that he will bring drive and energy to the continued development of this exceptional business.”

“The Executive team of Spectris would like to congratulate Chuck on his appointment and look forward to him leading Servomex to further success,” says John O’Higgins, CEO of parent company Spectris PLC.  We would also like to express our thanks for the exceptional contribution made by Chris Cottrell to Servomex during his six years at the helm of the business. Through his tireless work, leadership and vision, he has transformed the outlook, prospects and profitability of Servomex. We wish Chris the very best in his future plans – he deserves it.”
