Protea Ltd customers can now benefit from the company’s customised “Combustion Suite Software”.

This is an extremely important development from Protea, enabling users of the MCERTS Approved Mobile Protir204 FTIR System to have this innovative and extremely powerful analytical software running on their instrument.

The new powerful software was developed in-house by Protea. It provides customers with a set of ready-made analytical methods for the common inorganic combustion gas species required to be measured under the Waste Incineration Directive, including hydrogen fluoride and ammonia. These methods make use of Protea’s 15 years of experience in chemometric modeling for emission based FTIR analysers.

Of equal importance is the fact that the new software suite also has a special “VOC mode” that includes a large number of pre-loaded common organic compounds. With this a basic user is able to use the instrument immediately for such monitoring without the need to build new tailored spectral models. For other compounds, the software allows any number of spectral models to be added by the trained user at a later stage, making the 204M the ideal tool for new and expert FTIR users alike.

Richard Camm, Protea’s Managing Director says "We are extremely pleased with this new software. For the first time it enables users to benefit from the real analytical power of high resolution FTIR systems easily, without any significant customer input. The software does the work that previously required experts."

Protea also recognises that FTIR will need to be deployed for Regulatory Monitoring in line with the Environment Agency’s M22 Technical Guidance Note “Measuring Stack Gas Emissions using FTIR Instruments”. The Combustion Suite Software has been developed to implement this standard as it has all the required features of M22. Users are guided through the process, so they can have real confidence that the results they obtain are analytically correct andcomply with the standards.
