A large proportion of UK multinationals have said they would not use suppliers that have a bad attitude towards air quality in the future.

According to a new study conducted by Carbon Trust Advisory, 56 per cent of respondents in Britain would cease placing orders with companies that have a poor impact on the environment.

This was in stark contrast to multinationals based in the US, as a mere 28 per cent claimed they would adopt the same approach.

Overall, 93 per cent of those surveyed said they were taking measures to reduce their carbon footprint, while 40 per cent revealed they had already started making amendments to their supply chain in order to become more economical.

Chief sustainability officer at BT Niall Dunne commented that the firm - which works with 16,700 suppliers worldwide - is taking its green agenda seriously.

"We were one of the first companies in the UK to introduce a climate change procurement standard back in March of this year," he remarked.

Recent research undertaken by the Carbon Disclosure Project showed a growing number of firms are looking to introduce business-wide policies to help fight climate change.
