BMW has been praised for its ongoing commitment to tailoring its working practices in order to boost air quality.

The company has been named the most sustainable car manufacturer in the world by the Dow Jones for the seventh consecutive year. This means BMW is the only automotive firm to appear in the index every year since its inception.

Recent statistics compiled by cleangreencars.co.uk also highlighted BMW as the UK's leading premium vehicle producer with the lowest CO2 emissions.

The luxury car maker has managed to drive down the average pollution output across its fleet by five per cent in the past 12 months.

In a hat-trick of awards, BMW's 318d ES saloon has also been named the best executive car by What Car?

The model falls into the lowest tax band for company cars and its 2.0-litre diesel engine can provide 62.8 miles per gallon.

Meanwhile, bosses are expecting the launch of the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics Saloon this month to "set a new benchmark for efficiency".
