Portable parallel analysers dramatically streamline water quality testing

13 Aug, 2024

Are you fed up with all of the equipment that is necessary for water testing at multiple sites, and worried about repeatability? – and do you dream of a single compact instrument that can perform all of the most common tests with less error opportunities?  Yes? well dream no more…

The Hach® Portable Parallel Analyser (PPA) Series SL1000 and the new SL250 perform common water tests with less than half of the usual manual steps. They provide highly accurate results with less opportunity for errors in a fraction of the time.

By combining the benefits of a colorimeter and an electrochemistry meter in one single instrument, portability is a breeze, and the revolutionary Chemkey reagent delivery method dramatically improves ease of use. The innovative Chemkey reagents do not require sample preparation nor the use of blanks, or even the handling of chemicals – in contrast with traditional liquid/powder reagents.

Less opportunity for errors

All chemicals and processes are entirely contained within the Chemkey. From automated sample volume, to standardised amounts of reagents, with parameter recognition by barcode, Chemkey optimises measurement performance, by minimising the likelihood of failure by operator error. The automated processes operate with internal timers and temperature control to make the entire process consistent and repeatable, while applying the same procedures and reagents as classical colorimetric methods. In addition, a built-in heater allows faster reaction times and balances sample temperature.

Chemkey contains the same chemicals and executes the same process steps that users have trusted for decades - now delivered in a simple, self-contained package. All chemicals are contained within the Chemkey, which means that operators cannot come into contact with reagents.

Better for operators and the environment

Chemkey operation is precise and safe – users simply insert, dip, and read!

All Chemkey reagents are classed as non-dangerous goods, so the technology is safer for users and better for the environment.

Simultaneous measurements make the SL Line even more powerful. Through the combination of colorimetry and full electrochemistry in one instrument, users save time and must carry less instruments and accessories. In addition, a rugged and portable design allows for reliable testing in any location, onsite or in the lab.

Choice of probes and Chemkey parameters

The SL1000 has four colorimetric slots and two connectors for Hach Intellical probes for parallel analysis of up to six parameters. The SL250 is the entry solution to the Chemkey technology and comes with one colorimetric slot, plus also two connectors for Intellical probes.

The Hach® Portable Parallel Analyser (PPA) Series and Chemkeys are EPA-approved for reporting of Fluoride, Copper, Free and Total Chlorine in drinking water applications.

The instruments have datalogging capability for up to 1000 measuring points, and a mini-USB port allows for easy data transfer and software updates.
