A German wastewater treatment plant was upgraded to enable advanced
nitrogen elimination. Within the course of this upgrade, 9 FLUXUS® ADM7407 multi-beam clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters were installed.
At the inlet of the denitrification tank, a flow measurement of the raw sewage coming from the primary settling tank and of the recycled sludge coming from the secondary settling tank was needed. In the recirculation pipes between the aeration tank and the denitrification tank, a flow measurement of biologically pretreated (nitrified) wastewater was also necessary. Thanks to its high output voltage, FLUXUS® by Flexim (Germany) provides a reliable and failure safe
measurements even on media with a high level of aeration and solids. Its high dynamic range ensures precise measurements at both low and high flow rates.
Non-invasive ultrasonic flow measurement represents the ideal solution for upgrading. It is a very good and economic alternative to the magnetic-inductive flow meters customarily used in the water and wastewater industry. Because the flow transducers are simply clamped onto the the pipe, large diameters (here DN 1200 and DN 1400) do not cause any significant additional costs. Furthermore, installation and commissioning are very easy, requiring no stop of the treatment facility, no pipework and no large construction work. No crane and heavy equipment are required for assembly.
