New range of detectors delivers complete methane monitoring capabilities

22 Aug, 2025

With the EU Methane Regulation (2024/1787) requiring operators to submit verified annual source-level methane emissions reports starting August 5, 2025, accurate detection and monitoring have become a business-critical priority. Teledyne Gas & Flame Detection (Teledyne GFD) has introduced MethaSense, a versatile new line of methane detectors designed to meet the needs of residential, industrial, and utility markets.

The family includes MethaSense, MethaSense XP, and MethaSense Trace, all built around Teledyne’s patented NDIR sensor technology for accurate and reliable detection. MethaSense provides compact, affordable protection for homes and small businesses, featuring smart metering compatibility, LoRaWAN connectivity, and a battery life of more than 10 years. MethaSense XP offers rugged, certified safety for industrial environments, with wireless communication options and resistance to corrosion and sensor saturation.

For large-scale operations, MethaSense Trace provides advanced leak detection and repair (LDAR) capabilities. With IP67 protection, sensitivity reaching 50 ppm, and a detection range up to 100% of volume, it enables 24/7 monitoring through cloud-based analytics and automatic reporting. Operators gain a reliable solution to measure emissions, minimise losses, and stay fully compliant with increasing international methane regulations.

Régis PREVOST, Product Line Manager, Teledyne GFD commented, “NDIR technology, as utilised by all three detectors in our new MethaSense series, offers high selectivity, fast response times and long-term reliability. Users benefit from natural gas detectors that provide a low-maintenance, cost-effective, versatile solution for continuous methane monitoring, supported by key features that include up to 10+ years of battery life, zero recalibration requirements, wireless connectivity options, and suitability for smart infrastructure and safety-critical environments.”
