A leap forward for smart sensing technology in indoor air quality, occupational hygiene and environmental monitoring applications

14 May, 2025

Spurred on by over a quarter-century of feedback from users across the globe, GrayWolf’s DirectSense® XM represents a significant step forward in smart sensing technology. This compact, adaptable probe-datalogger is designed to meet the rigorous demands of professionals working in indoor air quality, occupational hygiene, environmental monitoring, HVAC validation, and sustainable building assessment. Whether deployed as a hand-held instrument, on a desktop, or mounted to a wall for long-term use, the DirectSense XM supports up to eight interchangeable, plug-and-play smart sensors, each engineered for precision, reliability, and ease of use.

The device’s internal memory enables months of autonomous datalogging, reducing the need for constant external connection and making it a cost-effective solution without compromising on performance. Its broad range of sensor options, including TVOCs, CO₂, formaldehyde, and various toxic gases, makes it highly versatile for both targeted spot checks and continuous environmental monitoring. Built-in fans help stabilize readings and speed up response times, while the rugged, ergonomic design ensures dependable operation in demanding field and laboratory conditions.

Smart sensor technology is central to the DirectSense XM’s appeal. Calibration data is stored on individual sensors, allowing them to be swapped between probes without recalibration—a patented feature that streamlines workflows and maximises uptime. Users can interact with the instrument via Bluetooth LE, Wi-Fi, or USB, with seamless integration across Windows, Android, iOS, and MacOS platforms. It also connects to GrayWolf’s cloud-based GrayWolfLive™ application, enabling remote access to real-time and logged data, and supports detailed reporting through WolfSense®PC software.

Whether used for LEED or WELL compliance, industrial hygiene assessments, HVAC diagnostics, or research applications, the DirectSense XM offers a unique blend of precision, flexibility, and connectivity. Its modularity and smart capabilities consolidate multiple instruments into one dependable solution—delivering the insight professionals need with the simplicity they expect.
