Wastewater treatment tunnel launched in Sussex
Oct 26 2010
Southern Water's Hollyblue project is part of its £300 million initiative to improve the local environment by treating local wastewater, the Sussex Express reported.
The Tunnel Boring Machine will be used to dig from the sewage treatment site to Portobello before taking the wastewater to Friars Bay.
Southern Water's project manager Julian Smith said: "The wastewater treatment was designed to blend in with the downland setting and is covered with a green roof of approximately 18,000 square metres, the size of almost three football pitches."
Earlier this month, Southern Water announced it will launch a £2.8 million project to improve water quality in the Kent area.
It stated that improvements will be made at the Fawkham Water Supply Works, including the installation of a carbon filtering system, and work is expected to be completed by spring 2012.
