MACHEREY-NAGEL, an established German manufacturer of water testing systems, offers a complete system for the chemical oxygen demand (COD) analysis in municipal and industrial waste water. This includes high quality photometers, heating blocks for sample digestion and user-friendly tube tests.

The PF-12 from MACHEREY-NAGEL is an easy to operate compact photometer with a clear and convenient user guidance that impresses with modern design and precise analytics. The photometer already includes over 100 preprogrammed test methods for extensive water analysis. Due to the intuitive menu navigation, operating the PF-12 is fast and easy. The PF-12 features a USB 2.0 port which enables updates with new tests and methods via PC/Internet in no time. Additionally, the USB port is designed to serve as the photometers’ flexible power supply. The PF-12 can be operated directly via PC with a USB cable. Moreover, power can be supplied

from a normal outlet or a car’s 12 V outlet with the respective adaptors. Also the PF-12 can run on (rechargeable) batteries.

The new heating blocks NANOCOLOR® VARIO 4 and VARIO C2 allow an easy and fast performance of COD digestions. The determination of COD in accordance to the international norm ISO 15705 occurs at 148°C in 2 hours. The time-saving determination of high-speed COD works at 160°C in only 30 minutes. The corresponding temperatures and heating times are preprogrammed. In combination with extreme short warm-up times this leads to very effective sample preparations. The NANOCOLOR® heating blocks also include various safety features; like integrated protective lids, contact protection on the surface of the heating blocks, high temperature stability and protection against excess temperature.

Since COD represents one of the most important parameters in water and waste water analysis we offer a wide range of COD tests. Depending on the customer requirements 8 tests with different measuring ranges are available (COD 40, COD 60, COD 160, COD 300, COD 1500, COD 10000, COD 15000 and COD 60000; between 2 - 60000 mg/l). The ISO 15705 explicitly recommends to use commercial tube tests. MACHEREY-NAGEL confirms that every component of the NANOCOLOR® system for photometric water analysis fulfils all requirements of the respective norm. For all measuring ranges, given in the norm, our tube tests works with the

required sample volume of 2 ml and contain all required chemicals, which are predosed and ready to use. The tube tests COD 40, COD 60, COD 160 and COD 1500 fulfill all requirements of the ISO 15705 concerning reagents, sample volumes, digestion conditions and photometric evaluation. Furthermore NANOCOLOR® COD tests only use 1/5 of the environmentally hazardous materials in comparison to ISO 6060.

The well established NANOCOLOR® analysis system offers an environmentally friendly, competitively priced and time-saving system for the determination of COD, fulfilling all requirements of the ISO 15705.
