Water quality 'satisfies customers'

The improved water quality of the water received from a pipeline project has resulted in happy customers in one Australian town, it has been reported.

Sourcing water directly via the Wimmera Mallee pipeline from Lake Bellfield in the Grampians has caused a noticeable improvement in quality for local residents, with saline levels decreasing from around 3,000 electrical conductivity units to less than 500, according to the Stawell Times.

Jeff Rigby, managing director of GWMWater - which caters for approximately 70,000 customers, with a geographic spread of 62,000 sq km - said that the required treatment level of the piped water was also significantly reduced due to its quality.

"We are on target to complete the project in early 2010, providing consistent water quality to all customers supplied from the system," he said.

He added that the company will begin to think about the opportunities provided by the improved water quality as the benefits are delivered across the region.
