Residents complain about wastewater near homes
Nov 23 2010
Sludge from a United Utilities site was found outside five homes on Occupation Lane after it was legally put there by the organisation, the Northwich Guardian reported.
A spokesperson for United Utilities apologised for the mess and said that contractors were meant to keep the road clean from the wastewater.
It was stated that the biosolids were to be used for farmland as they contain a lot of nutrients, with the representative adding: "We recycle around 80 per cent for use on farmers' fields."
The Environment Agency also commented that the wastewater was not illegally dumped as it was put there to be spread on the land.
However, a spokesperson for the group added that it is to be moved closer to the field and away from the properties.
Last month, there was a major sewage leak in Eastbourne after a wastewater pipe burst into Shinewater Lake.
