North Somerset achieves high water quality status

Apr 07 2011

North Somerset has been praised for its high level of water quality after one of its beaches was found to be very clean.

Sand Bay was given the highest achievement for cleanliness following the assessment of water monitoring results by the Environment Agency (EA).

This comes following North Somerset Council's work with the EA to boost the standard of water in Weston, North Somerset Times reports.

Speaking with the newspaper, a spokesman for the local authority said the council is "very proud" of the beach at Weston.

"Our miles of golden sand is cleaned on a daily basis and we have a beach management plan to make sure the beach and its surroundings are a clean and pleasant area for people to enjoy," it was stated.

He added that the local authority will continue to work with the EA and Wessex Water to maintain these positive results.

The EA launched its bathing water profiles facility last month, allowing members of the public to access information regarding the water quality of their local beaches from its website.
