Air Monitoring
Malaysias air quality good in many areas
Sep 08 2009
It has been revealed that the air quality in Malaysia is generally good, with many areas displaying positive readings at the beginning of the week.
A total of 39 out of 43 nationwide locations that are currently being monitored for their air pollutant index (API) demonstrated encouraging readings when they were assessed at 11:00 local time on Monday.
An API reading of between zero and 50 is considered good, while 51 to 100 is regarded as moderate and 101 to 200 as unhealthy.
Meanwhile readings of 201 to 300 are considered as very unhealthy and those over 300 are hazardous.
Although there were many positive results across the country, some places in Sabah and Sarawak only showed a moderate air quality, an update posted on the Department of Environments website revealed.
In other air quality news, the US Environmental Protection Agency recently announced that $20 million (£12 million) in funding will be invested into the Clean Diesel Finance Program.
