Group seeks congestion charge to boost Cardiff air quality
May 04 2011
According to the Cardiff Civic Society, the introduction of a tariff system similar to that seen in the centre of London could be beneficial to the area in the long term.
It hopes that by introducing charges, more drivers will be encouraged to use the Welsh city's public transport network instead of their own vehicles.
Secretary of the society David Eggleton believes the city's local development plan should focus on the construction of a metro and improvements to the park and ride system.
"It is clear to us that transportation is the most single important aspect that will affect Cardiff, its growth, its quality of life, indeed it's very sustainability, by 2026," he remarked.
Such a move may prove popular among environmentalists, who have voiced their concerns over the recent smog alerts issued across parts of the UK.
