Devon could ban parking to improve air quality

Mar 16 2011

Devon County Council is looking at banning parking on one street in order to improve air quality in the area.

The local authority is thinking about preventing cars from parking in Western Road as pollution levels have increased since the issue was first looked at ten years ago, the South Hams Gazette reports.

Councillor Roger Croad told the news provider that "something needs to be done" in order to boost air quality levels in the area.

The proposals for a Traffic Regulation Order would see cars being banned from parking in Western Road during the day.

Mr Croad recognises that this "will cause inconvenience" to people, but added that "poor air quality has been blighting parts of Ivybridge for too long".

Colchester is another town that could consider air monitoring methods to reduce pollution after the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs told Colchester Council to cut down on emissions in the area.
