Air quality conference to take place in London

Jul 21 2010

It has been announced that a conference to discuss Europe's commitment to improving air quality will take place in London.

Hosting the exhibition and discussion will be the Royal Society of Chemistry and it is set to take place between December 14th and 15th in the capital, Croner Select reported.

The Monitoring Ambient Air 2010: New Air Quality Measurement Technologies event will get European leaders and environmental professionals to discuss new measurements that could be used to help countries meet goals set by the EU's 2008 Air Quality Directive.

Concerns over health impacts of poor air quality, trends in pollution and not understanding sources of fumes are subjects expected to be debated at the event.

It is intended that new monitoring approaches and technologies will be looked at in order to improve air quality around Europe before the next Directive in 2013.

London in particular needs to step up its actions to improve pollution after the European Commission issued the city with a final warning last month that it could be forced to pay a £300 million fine if it did not amend its breaches in air quality control.
