Measuring Numerous Disinfection Parameters On-site

Jan 29 2011

Merck (Germany) offers a wide range of instruments for fast and reliable analysis. With the Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco Cl2/O3/ClO2/CyA/pH, for example, numerous disinfection parameters can be determined safely on site: chlorine, chlorine dioxide and ozone. The robust device for use on the move also has a real time clock and data storage function. The cost-effective colorimeter delivers rapid results and users can select their preferred method for monitoring free and total chlorine: powder reagents or liquid reagents (for use in very humid environments).

Merck has also enhanced the capabilities of the chemical oxygen demand (COD) cell test on the Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco COD/CSB. As waste water becomes progressively cleaner, industry professionals need a device that measures increasingly lower amounts of impurities. The colorimeter now offers four measuring ranges, from 10 g/l up down 10 mg/l – ideal for users working with waste water and at sewage treatment plants. Suited for ready-to-use, USEPA approved Spectroquant® COD cell tests, the colorimeter complies with ISO 15705 for all COD tests.

Both the Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco Cl2/O3/ClO2/CyA/pH and the Spectroquant® Colorimeter Picco COD/CSB also measure absorption and store the results of the analysis with a date/time stamp.
Merck’s Spectroquant® liquid reagents for chlorine determination offer plenty of benefits compared to conventional chlorine tests with powder reagents, especially in damp environments. In damp conditions, powders tend to clump together, a state in which they cannot be used. Spectroquant® liquid reagents, on the other hand, can always be used.

In addition, Spectroquant® liquid reagents are more stable than other liquid chlorine tests, and the only ones which can be stored at room temperature between 15 and 25 °C. They are therefore also easy to apply on site, for example in production. Wherever the chlorine content of water needs to be analyzed quickly and reliably – with a reaction time of just one minute, the portable Colorimeter Spectroquant® Picco is the perfect solution.

The liquid reagents for the Spectroquant® chlorine determination can be supplied individually in 30ml bottles. Only reagents 1 and 2 are needed to determine free chlorine, while 3 reagents are required to determine total chlorine. That gives users flexibility in using all components and means they only re-order what they need. Individual components don’t need to be thrown away unused. That’s good for both the environment and your budget.

The Spectroquant® chlorine liquid reagents from Merck meet the quality requirement of measurement accuracy of both the EU directive on drinking water quality and the World Health Organization guidelines.
