The precise detection and measurement of hydrogen is a challenge that needs to be met for the sake of the future of the hydrogen economy. Thankfully, recent innovations are expanded our capabilities considerably. Numerous other gases are also associated with this energy transition, and these will offer additional major opportunities and challenges to the gas detection and monitoring market to cater to this rapidly expanding sector. Participants at the next GASG (Gas Analysis and Sensing Group) Meeting, on 21st March 2024 at Cranfield University, will be able to learn how developers of gas detectors are adapting their instruments to cater to the specific needs of the hydrogen sector and learn about the latest technology supporting this extremely buoyant market.

Nicola Warwick, lead author of the recent study that quantified the effect of hydrogen as an indirect greenhouse gas, will be one of the speakers. The meeting will provide an excellent opportunity to meet presenters who are introducing innovations in high-quality measurement of hydrogen using optical techniques. Among the presenters will be Cat Gardner from Ion Science, who will discuss the company’s perspective on opportunities for sensors and NPL will reveal results from their recent survey of measurement needs across the industry. Additionally, a lunchtime tour of Cranfield’s expanding facilities relating to hydrogen research is being planned.

The GASG is in a unique position to bring people together from all parts of the gas analysis industry to learn about new developments in a productive forum that promotes positive engagement and discussion.
