Greener buses introduced in York to improve city's air quality
Nov 22 2010
Earlier this week, the City of York Council revealed that new low-emission buses will be trialled on the Park & Ride route.
The buses will be used over a period of six months starting from early December 2010 and passengers will be able to give the local authority their opinions on the vehicles.
Steve Golloway, executive member for city strategy at the council, said that the co-operation of the First York bus company to help the local authority implement the plans has been very helpful.
"They use technologies which we can expect to become common place during the next decade," he stated.
York City Council has been declared an Air Quality Management Area for its high levels of nitrogen dioxide and results from the programme will be fed into the Air Quality Action Plan for Fulford.
