New and improved single-gas detector unveiled

May 28 2024

Blackline Safety Corp. has upgraded its G6 single-gas detector by adding new features and service plans and thereby improving this versatile life-saving wearable device considerably.

The new version of the G6 now has the same real-time connectivity as Blackline’s G7 product line. An emergency SOS feature that workers can be activated in critical situations to call for help, as well as an extended suite of data and reporting analytics have been added; the G6 also includes sophisticated indoor location technology. Blackline has launched new service plans: Protect and Protect Plus, from US$10 per month, which packages new features to suit any organisation’s safety regime.

This device is a connected single-gas detector that provides instant cloud connectivity and location technology to assist industrial organisations to provide better protection for their personnel in locations where exposure to toxic gases and hazards are ubiquitous.

The G6 warns the user when they encounter a dangerous gas (carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, oxygen or sulphur dioxide) by using readily-visible lights, sound and vibration while transmitting immediate notifications to emergency contacts. When gas inhalation has made a worker unconscious, the notifications along with the new SOS functionality are potentially life-saving, for the inert worker and any other personnel nearby.

What powers the G6 is the Blackline Live and Blackline Analytics platforms which provide an analysis of usage and compliance to provide companies with a clear overview of when and where instruments are being used and alarms occur. These platforms enable them to effectively deal with potential problems before they become dangerous thereby optimising their safety programs.

An energy company operating in Texas’ Permian Basin added the G6 to its selection of Blackline connected safety devices. A company representative commented, “G6 filled a gap in our safety program, as we needed an easy-to-use and maintain device more suited to temporary or short-time visitors on site. This freed up our Blackline G7 lone worker and multi-gas detectors for personnel in more hazard-prone situations. With Blackline Safety, we get one partner and one platform to manage all our safety needs.”

G6 has a life expectancy of four years, it is provided with a rechargeable battery with up to a year of battery life from a single charge. Blackline will also introduce multi-unit charging stations, in 5 or 25-unit configurations, for simple and convenient charging options. G6 units already deployed in the field will be upgraded with the new features via over-the-air firmware updates.
