When new laboratories are planned it is important from a budgetary point of view that the facility accommodates as many applications as possible. Distillation equipment based on the Kjeldahl method is advantageous in this respect as its key component is a steam distillation system. This type of sample preparation is needed for many different analysis procedures.
Over recent years Büchi Labortechnik AG (Switzerland) has fully redesigned its Kjeldahl systems, so that they now enable much more than only traditional protein determination.
A new application note describes the use of the Distillation Unit K-355 for the determination of Free Cyanide (CNF) and Weak Acid Dissociable Cyanide (CNWAD) in waste water according to the modified method EPA 9010 C/335.2, using the Pyridine-Barbituric Acid spectrophotometric method according to the method EPA 9014.
Further interesting applications in the fields of waste water and sewage sludge include the determination of volatile acids, the content of phenols, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) or ammonium content. These and many other applications in the context of environmental analyses are available free of charge on request from Büchi Labortechnik AG in Switzerland.
