The Company GSG Mess- und Analysengeräte GmbH (Germany) has closed an exclusive Agreement for the distribution of the new Proton Transfer Reaction mass spectrometry technology. These innovative PTR-Mass spectrometers have been developed by the Innsbruck/Austria based company IONICON.
PTR-MS solutions allow their users to detect and quantify VOCs online, in real-time and in concentrations as low as 5 pptv. Online-monitoring and fast sample analyses are further advantages of PTR-MS. With their very soft ionisation method using protonated water as the primary source of ions, they reduce mass fragmentation to a minimum. No sample preparation is necessary. Three types of PTR-MS instruments are available. Among them their premium product, the High-Sensitivity PTR-MS is mostly used for atmospheric as well as food and flavour research, with a detection limit of 5pptv. The portable and robust version for mobile use is the compact PTR-MS. This system has a very short start-up time and an attractive price but nevertheless quantifies compounds in concentrations as low as 500pptv.
A further version of the PTR instruments is the standard PTR-MS. Real-time and online measurements combined with a detection limit of 30pptv makes the standard PTR-MS an essential instrument for scientific
laboratories and research groups.
