Growing demand for green cars set to improve air quality

There is likely to be growing demand for electric cars over the next couple of years, which could improve air quality in the UK.

Nextgreencar.com's Dr Ben Lane has predicted that by the end of 2012, there will be "thousands" of green cars on the roads.

He stated that people are considering fuel efficiency as an issue before purchasing cars and said: "The most you can save is by using electric vehicles."

Dr Lane commented that the purchasing cost is an important issue which may be preventing people from making a green car buy, saying that the "sticker price is the key decider for most car buyers".

However, the announcement made last month by transport secretary Philip Hammond and business minister Mark Prisk that people who purchase ultra-low emission cars in 2011 will be eligible for a grant of £5,000 is likely to alleviate the initial costs of buying green vehicles and improve the air quality in British cities.
