World’s widest range of SIL-rated thermal flow meters for safety critical industrial applications

Mar 08 2022

Thousands of process and plant operators in the petroleum, refining and oil & gas industries, who are in charge of safety-instrumented systems (SIS) that require air/gas flow measurement, already know that Fluid Components International (FCI) can provide them with the broadest selection of SIL -rated thermal mass air/gas flow meters available.

For over 50 years FCI has been a manufacturer of some of the world’s most advanced industrial thermal mass flow measurement instrumentation. For over a decade FCI has focused on developing SIL compliant products across their entire product line and they now offer more SIL rated thermal mass flow meters than any other manufacturer in the world. Whether its air or complex gas mixture gas flows or standard 4-20mA analogue outputs to digital bus communications such as HART, Modbus, and more, for SIL 1 or SIL 2 applications, FCI have the right flow meter solution. FCI’s flow meters are also approved for Ex-rated installations by worldwide agencies.

The most ubiquitous international standards requested for SIS in plant and refinery processes and applied to thermal flow meters are: IEC 61511: Functional Safety - Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry Sector; ANSI/ISA-84.00.01 (IEC 61511 Mod) - Functional Safety: Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry Sector; and IEC 61508: Functional Safety of Electrical, Electronic, and Programmable Electronic Safety Related Systems.

With higher demand and ever more stringent global legislation for operational safety within chemical, oil/gas, petroleum refining and other industries, instrumentation specifications have widened to comply with these standards. To ensure FCI provides unbiased failure rate data, they have reacted to this necessity by using independent, authorised third parties, such as exida and TÜV Nord, to perform the Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostics Analysis (FMEDA) on its range of thermal mass flow meters. As a result, FCI can now boast that they offer the widest selection of SIL compliant thermal dispersion technology flow meters in the world.
