A wastewater project to improve the water quality for people in Somerset has reached its second phase.

Earlier this week, Wessex Water confirmed that its £10 million Operation Clean and Clear initiative, aimed at improving water pipes in the town of Bridgwater, has been "progressing well".

Work has already been done to lay out a new mains network surrounding the town centre and the firm will now continue to improve conditions in the main area.

Project manager Davin Eversett said: "As we move into the second phase of the project, people will notice us carrying out work in many residential streets which reflects both the level of investment and the scale of the task to modernise ageing mains."

The group confirmed that work will continue for the next 12 months.

Wessex Water has also announced it will invest £200,000 to update pipes in Weymouth.

The 1920s water mains will be replaced with plastic pipes to allow residents to receive "a reliable supply of water".
