Companies have been encouraged to conduct better
environmental analysis of their emissions in order to reduce their carbon footprint.
This is the view of the Centre for Alternative Technology, which has advised businesses to have an audit of their existing emissions so that they can find out which areas they have to tackle.
The organisation claimed that this will help them cut their emission levels in the long-term.
A spokesperson for the group said: "Once you have an understanding of where your emissions are coming from, you can look at the different options for reducing them in those areas."
The Climate Strategies' Analysis Support to Target Based Negotiations report revealed that pledges by firms to reduce carbon levels are "insufficient".
One way that businesses could reach carbon emission targets is by switching over to renewable energy power, according to the Centre for Alternative Technology.
This, the spokesperson added, could be further helped by the government's incentivising investment into low carbon technologies.
