Back with a bang! Noise monitoring course returns this September

Jul 20 2018

With an estimated 20,000 workers still suffering with work-related hearing problems in Great Britain, health and safety managers must have noise monitoring processes in place to help eliminate this preventable condition. Monitoring solutions expert Casella’s in demand noise monitoring course returns on September 18th at its headquarters in Bedford, ready to train people in noise at work risk measurement.

Working in an excessively noisy environment, like construction, manufacturing and engineering, means workers can be at risk of permanently damaging their hearing as a result of the noisy processes, environments and specific tasks. Exposure to harmful noise can lead to noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), a condition that can be immediate or take a long time to be noticeable. NIHL is something all employers and employees need to be attuned to. Casella is committed to helping prevent increased noise-related health issues by guiding attendees on the importance of occupational noise monitoring in the workplace, duties under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations, cost saving and helping keep workers healthy.

Controlling noise and ensuring risks to health from exposure to excessive sound is the responsibility to the employer to adhere to noise regulations. The course is run by Casella’s leading noise expert, Shaun Knott, a regular speaker and panel contributor at leading health and safety events, with twenty-five years’ experience of encouraging best practice in monitoring systems and training individuals. The course helps attendees understand how to adhere with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 through implementing practical and cost effective noise monitoring solutions. Individuals will gain knowledge of the regulations, understand the importance of noise monitoring for worker safety, learn about the various techniques for noise measurement and gain the skills needed to start measuring noise efficiently in their workplace.

During the course, Casella will guide attendees through using sound level meters and personal dosimeters for noise exposure assessment. Participants will achieve a better understanding of how to turn noise readings into meaningful values that will help determine the most appropriate form of action such as noise control. Previous attendees of the course said it was, “interesting and enjoyable”, as well as being “extremely helpful, covering more than expected.” After successful completion of a test at the end of the day, individuals will be awarded with a certificate to show tey have been trained to monitor noise in the workplace.
