Gas Detection

Gascheck Gets Its Flying Stripes

Jan 28 2008

Ion Science (UK) GasCheck 3000is was recently selected as the instrument of choice for detecting refrigerant gases on the wing tips of BAE Systems Typhoon Euro Fighters. The GasCheck 3000is met BAE Systems’ requirements with its ATEX approval, along with the direct ml/sec readout and ability to calibrate with the Ion Science CalCheck unit for traceability.
Mark Rhodes of BAE stated, "We use the GasCheck 3000is as a leak detector for the refrigeration units located in the aircraft wing tips for simple leak detection of refrigerant R245fa. This allows us to quickly check the integrity of the system, and that they meet our
required standards."
BAE’s major customers include the air forces of UK, Italy, Spain and Germany, soon to be followed by Austria. In the future the GasCheck may become a recommended service tool to be used with the Typhoon. Key features of the GasCheck 3000is include: Accurate detection of almost any gas - detects any gas different to air; Easily detects the smallest of leaks; Provides rapid response times; Conveniently calibrated against helium; Intrinsically safe / safe detection of flammable
gases; Performs repeatable readings - choice of readings in ppm or ml/sec; Advanced software features; Data logging capability; Micro thermal conductivity sensor; Hand held, easy to use instrument; Large back lit display.
