Ammonia monitoring simplified

Jan 09 2019

Ammonia, a raw material used in numerous industrial applications, is an important chemical for water monitoring professionals. Ammonia concentrations are routinely measured in wastewater effluent, drinking water, surface water and seawater.

Depending on the application, there is a wide range of acceptable concentrations an analyst may need to look for. CHEMetrics offers two easy-to-use methods for measuring ammonia levels in water, with ranges from 0.5 ppm to 10,000 ppm, both leveraging CHEMetrics’ unique “Snap-and-Read” self-filling ampoules: The traditional Nessler reagent, which contains mercury and provides test results in two minutes or less and the mercury-free HBA reagent (hydroxybenzyl alcohol), which provides test results in six minutes or less.

In industrial wastewater applications, CHEMetrics’ products are generally used to spot-check levels of selected chemicals in the refinery effluent stream to ensure contaminants are removed or holding at permissible levels. The effluent is typically treated in an on-site wastewater treatment facility.

In addition to ammonia, CHEMetrics, Inc. manufactures water analysis test kits and instruments for over 45 essential analytes, including peracetic acid (PAA), ozone, chemical oxygen demand (COD), dissolved oxygen, hydrogen peroxide and more.
