Air Monitoring

Ensure you meet today’s air quality standards

May 09 2018

Across the globe environmental labs need accurate, reliable results for their outdoor air testing requirements. Air pollution levels continue to improve in certain regions, which is largely due to expanded, more stringent regulations for air quality and emission controls. Perkin Elmer has a long history and experience with understanding changing air standards and provides end-end-air monitoring solutions from field sampling to data management, and identifying and measuring volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds that can be hazardous to human health. Perkin Elmer’sClarus® gas chromatography systems and TurboMatrix™automated thermal desorption technologies are ideal for ambient air applications that enable regulatory compliance with the highest throughput, and are supported by method development and service for optimised performance and efficiency.

The monitoring of VOC ozone precursor compounds will continue to play a role in defining and reducing air pollution in developing nations over the next decade. The PerkinElmer On-line Ozone Precursor Analyser has a proven record of several hundred thousand hours of reliable field operation. With quantitation limits below 0.1 ppb (FID) and the capability of sampling for 40 minutes of every hour, the system meets the requirements of this exacting method.

EPA method 325 is a U.S. regulation that requires oil refineries to monitor and measure volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at the fenceline of their facilities and report harmful emissions with a focus on benzene. Our complete solution includes sample shelters, passive sorbent tubes, our award winning TurboMatrix ATD and Clarus® SQ 8 GC/MS to accurately detect VOCs, as well as installation, system and application training, service and support.

When soil excavation occurs around industrial sites, there is an increasing need to determine both volatile organic compounds (VOC) and semivolatile organic compounds (SVOC) in air due to the toxic components such as BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes) and regulated PAHs (polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons) that can escape into the surrounding areas and impact human health. PerkinElmer has developed a single solution to quantitatively analyse toxic organic compounds in air samples after these compounds are collected onto sorbent tubes, then loaded to the Thermal Desorber 650 (ATD), Clarus 690 GC and Mass Spectrometer. Precision, linearity and reporting limits are excellent for all classes of compounds and results are better than method criteria.
