CoGDEM Comment - CoGDEM prepares for WWEM 2016 in November

Jul 11 2016

CoGDEM is the Council of Gas Detection and Environmental Monitoring, a trade association with a membership of around sixty companies involved in the gas detection industry.  We are pleased to have ILM/ETP (the publishers of this IET magazine) as an Associate Member, so we now place a regular column of news from the gas detection industry in IET magazine.

Every two years, many of the gas detection equipment and sensor manufacturers who supply their products into the process industries meet in the UK Midlands to take part in the WWEM exhibition and workshops.  This biennial event takes place on 2nd and 3rd November 2016 at The International Centre Telford, where visitors from any industries can receive free entry, free parking, free refreshments and free workshops.  Details of WWEM 2016 will be found elsewhere in this magazine.

CoGDEM is pleased to once again help to coordinate the Gas Detection Zone at WWEM, providing visitors with the chance to see innovative new gas detection instruments and systems being displayed for the first time, as well as the opportunity for visitors to attend free workshops and seminars.  These will be relevant to engineers and managers from any process or manufacturing industry, and will help to improve their knowledge of updated standards, guidance and technology related to all forms of gas detectors.  Subjects covered will include confined space entry, new standards and guidance for toxic gas detectors, selection of apparatus, new gas sensor development and relevant case-studies.

Visitors whose appetite is whetted for a more detailed knowledge of all aspects of workplace gas detection will be able to purchase a copy of ‘The CoGDEM Guide to Gas Detection’, a hardback reference book available from the publishers of this magazine who are also the organisers of the WWEM event.  The book contains chapters on the science of gas and sensing techniques, guidance on selecting suitable equipment and setting appropriate alarm activation thresholds, calibration and testing, hazardous area requirements and relevant standards.

CoGDEM will have representatives available during WWEM 2016 to answer generic questions related to industrial gas detectors, and to point visitors towards the relevant members’ exhibits and workshops.
