Certified Reference Standard Flumethrin (CAS# 69770-45-2) Available
Jun 23 2015
For the first time ever, researchers and scientists will be able to get standards grade flumethrin (CAS# 69770-45-2) from Chem Service, Inc (USA). Unlike many commercial pesticides, this pyrethroid insecticide is used on dogs, livestock and even bees to prevent the negative effects of certain parasites.
Chemically written as C28H22Cl2FNO3 or Cyano(4-fluoro-3-phenoxyphenyl)methyl 3-[2-chloro-2-(4-chlorophenyl)vinyl]-2,2-dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate, flumethrin is a synthetic insecticide. It works similarly to organochlorines in its mode of action by inhibiting function of the sodium channel in parasites and insects and therefore affecting the nervous system. This causes hyperactivity, paralysis and death.
Whether used in a wearable product, such as a flea collar, or applied directly through another medium, such as dipping, flumethrin is effective against ticks, fleas, mites, lice and some other pests for most dogs, sheep, cattle, goats and livestock. Although products from Bayer and other companies target this chemical for household pet use, flumethrin and other similar synthetic pyrethroid insecticides are not typically healthy for cats and can present risk.
Flumethrin is not used as medication for humans or on crops. It doesn't present a significant risk to the environment or birds when used properly. It is toxic and dangerous to aquatic life, making the proper disposal of flea baths or dips for livestock critical. Unlike other insecticides, flumethrin can be used in close proximity to bees under the right conditions. In some circumstances, it can help protect a hive from invasive pests.
