Solar panel industry 'will pick up this year'

Jun 01 2010

The solar panel and boiler industry will see a positive year after an early dip, a green heating expert has predicted.

Despite a quiet month in April, national sales manager at Buderus, a low-carbon heating manufacturer, Mike Southall suggested that more people will act to reduce the amount of energy their household produces over the next twelve months using green boilers and solar panels.

He said: "We feel fairly confident that it will pick up and the busy time for us is always going to be July and August."

Last week (May 24th), Scotland introduced the boiler scrappage scheme, enabling 5,000 households to receive £400 towards the cost of a new greener boiler.

Just two days after the scheme was launched, the Energy Saving Trust announced that all the vouchers for new boilers had been allocated due to the huge level of interest.

As part of last week's Queen's Speech, the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced the introduction of a 'Green Deal', which will deliver incentives to encourage households to use low-carbon energy.
