Al Gore's fight to reduce the effects of climate change and global warming through his latest programme of environmental legislation has not been as successful as he hoped.

Steve Milloy reported on his blog Green Hell that Mr Gore felt defeated over the failure to enforce the cap-and-trade policy in the US.

"[T]his [cap-and-trade] battle has not been successful and is pretty much over for this year," the former politician stated.

The cap-and-trade legislation imposes mandatory restrictions on emission levels to deliver "greater environmental protection at lower cost".

It also encourages innovative green projects and the use of renewable energy sources.

Matt Patterson, writing for the Washington Times, stated that that "fortunes of Mr Gore's global warming crusade are certainly in decline".

He suggested that this was a result of "bad science", pointing to a number of mistakes found in the former politician’s Academy Award-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth as the possible lack of support for Mr Gore's environmental legislation.
