SGX launch innovative MEMS Pellistor

Apr 10 2013

SGX Sensortech has reinforced its position as a leading designer and manufacturer of gas sensors with the launch of a new pellistor product. An industrial-suited MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) has been developed for a new generation of low-power and rugged sensors for the detection of combustible gases, in particular methane. Innovative process technologies combined with optimized sensing and filter materials are engineered to achieve exceptional performance compared to existing products. These sensors can provide a significant power reduction, in continuous operation and compared with existing pellistor gas sensors it can be up to 50 percent.

The micron silicon heater design delivers improved resistance to shock, with millimetre diced components this unique structure allows reductions in the sensor size and a large flexibility within the certified package design.

The MP-7217 sensor can be housed within a plug-in sensor head that can be fitted into existing designs of portable gas detectors, whilst the MP-7217 base sensor can be incorporated within a new product. The enhanced sensor performance will enable a suitable instrument to meet the various combustible gas performance standards. Not only do these sensors build upon and further expand the existing pellistor range, they are a significant technology breakthrough as the manufacturing process is now fully automated and no longer relies on large amount of manual input used during the manufacture of traditional pellistor gas sensors.

The adoption of this revolutionary approach has allowed SGX to improve the consistency in quality and supply of catalytic gas sensors above and beyond the traditionally manufactured catalytic devices. SGX will be demonstrating the MEMS Pellistors at Sensor and Test 2013, The Measurement Fair, in Germany from May 14 to 16.
