Pollutec Horizons: Europe’s eco-technology event in 2013

Nov 13 2013

Pollutec Horizons runs from 3rd to 6th December this year at Paris Nord Villepinte (France). As a general show, it deals with all the themes associated with eco-technologies, energy and sustainable development, all viewed from the perspective or research and innovation. It is hence of relevance to a broader and broader range of professionals. In parallel with this, the show is increasingly establishing its position as one of the key sustainable city events.

Pollutec Horizons has always been a ground-breaking show and continues to be so by providing a stage for numerous promising start-ups in such developing sectors as biogas, ecological engineering or corporate responsibility. In parallel to this sector-based approach, Pollutec Horizons 2013 is placing emphasis on three cross-sector themes, all viewed in terms of innovation: integrated city management (Sustainable City Focus), the drive to improve factory performance (Sustainable Industry Focus) and the importance of sustainable development in healthcare establishments (Hospitals and Sustainable Development Focus). It is also organizing two professional clusters: Engineering and Commerce & Distribution.

Over its four days, Pollutec Horizons will unveil the latest advances in research and innovative solutions across a range of environment and energy sectors. Visitors to the show will discover around a hundred eco-innovations on the stands of individual exhibitors and in the joint venture pavilions. Besides seven sets of awards and prizes will be presented at the show and, for the first time this year, Pollutec Horizons will welcome the winners of the French Pierre Potier and ChemStartup 2013 Awards (chemistry) as well as the Genopole competition (biotech) organized by France’s leading biotech- and biotherapy-dedicated science and business park.

As the crossroads for global supply and demand in relation to sustainable development, there are already thirty countries represented through the stands of individual exhibitors and confirmed national pavilions: Argentina, Belgium/Wallonia, Canada, China, Germany/Bavaria, Japan, South Korea. In an interesting development this year, several international exhibitors have linked up with the Biogas Village, providing clear evidence for the growth of the ‘waste to energy’ concept around the world. There is also a strong international presence in the air quality sector.

More specifically, the country of the year at the show is South Korea. Its presence - two joint venture pavilions, an official delegation and several special events - is being coordinated by two leading institutions:  the KEITI (Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute) and the KEPA (Korean Environmental Preservation Association). In parallel, several Asian delegations from China, India and Vietnam have been announced together with delegations from other parts of the world, such as Eastern Europe (Russia and Serbia), Middle East (Turkey), Africa (Sudan/Nile Basin, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Nigeria), North America (Canada) and Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay). Finally, decision makers from a number of EU members as well as Canada, Japan, South Korea, Tunisia and the United States are expected in conjunction with the Green Business Meetings organized by the Paris Ile-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise Europe Network.
