Using renewable energy sources, such as solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind turbines, will be a viable option for many UK households and businesses with the introduction of the feed-in tariffs, it has been asserted.
Andrew Moore, managing director of British Eco Energy, explained that the scheme offering financial incentives to people who install renewable energy solutions means that a greater number of households can take advantage of the technology.
"This announcement takes renewables from being a niche market for very green people or very wealthy people, to something that most people can do. It's a major shift," he stated.
Solar panels are likely to be one of the most popular options among homeowners, he added, noting that many houses in Germany already feature the technology on their rooftops.
Under the government's feed-in tariff project, households with a solar panel could benefit from an annual reduction in electricity bills of £140 as well as an additional £900 in payments from the financial incentives scheme, the Department of Energy and Climate Change revealed.
