Wastewater treatment facilities 'to increase' in South Africa

The market for water and wastewater treatment in South Africa will grow significantly in the future, it has been forecast.

According to calculations from Frost & Sullivan and South African Industrial Water, the market's worth will grow to $135.5 million (£98.6 million) within the next five years.

It was found to be worth $79.4 million in 2007.

Frost & Sullivan analyst Moses Duma said that the need for "water and wastewater treatment equipment is on a growth trajectory".

This increase will be spurred by "the increasing governmental pressure on companies to responsibly manage their environment, industrial operations that demand clean and high-quality water", he added.

Meanwhile, farmers and environmentalists in Africa could be set to benefit as the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture announced last week that it plans to establish a soil map of the region.
