Around 2,000 gallons of
wastewater has been spilled at Hawaii's Pearl Harbour, it has been reported.
According to the state department of health's clean water branch, the Navy alerted it to the incident, which it said occurred in the afternoon of March 3rd.
The incident is thought to have been caused a break in a
wastewater line in the Merry Point area, which has now been rectified.
Taking precautions by warning the public not to approach the area, the department is currently collecting samples of the water to monitor its progress.
It is not expected to have a significant affect upon public health, as the area is not commonly used for swimming or leisure activities, relates the Hawaii Reporter.
Meanwhile, the EU is considering making tanker pollution an illegal act in the future and it is working to better define different categories of water pollution, it emerged last month.
