Thames Water has pleaded guilty to releasing a cocktail of pollutants into England's River Wandle, it has emerged.
As a result of the company spilling strong chlorine into the waterway, thousands of fish were killed and the organisation was fined a total of £125,000.
The Environment Agency and local anglers worked for three days to move two tonnes of dead of fish from the river.
"For many years individuals and organisations [..] have achieved great improvements to
water quality and aquatic life in the Wandle. This incident is a major set back to all their hard work," stated environment officer Peter Ehmann.
In other water-related news, a writer for the JoongDaily claimed that South Korean authorities must do more to guard the Nakdong River, as it remains a source of drinking water for many but is not yet protected by anti-pollution regulations.
