In order for fish to survive and flourish, it is "vital" that they have good
water quality, according to one industry commentator.
Fisheries officer Chris Bainger made his comments as the Environment Agency announced that it is to re-establish salmon in the River Leadon after several years of them being absent.
A number of the animals were killed as a result of several recent pollution incidents.
Mr Bainger said: "Good
water quality is vital to the survival of these young fish. We urge people to help them thrive by taking care to ensure that the River Leadon does not become polluted again."
He stated that everyone has a role to play in securing the future of the creatures by ensuring that the stretch of water remains clean and reporting instances of pollution to the authorities as soon as possible.
Later this week, the Environment Agency is set to unveil its award-winning nature reserve in the Carnon Valley, near Truro in Cornwall.
