Foundation files lawsuit against the EPA

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation has filed a lawsuit against the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) due to its alleged lack of action over cleaning up the country's largest estuary.

A federal court has been requested by the foundation to order the EPA to take greater measures to assist with the cleaning of the bay, which has been the subject of pollution over recent years, reported SoMdNews.com.

Dedicated to protecting the bay, the foundation is calling for a reduction in air and water pollution in the estuary, including that coming from industrial sources such as factories, cities and nearby farms.

Bernie Fowler, one of the suit's plaintiffs and former senator for the state, commented: "We didn't have an alternative. The promises that have been made haven't been kept. The bay is really suffering."

In similar news, Southern Water, based in the UK, was fined £22,000 plus £8,900 in costs after it pleaded guilty to polluting a river near its base.
