Organisations in California, including two
wastewater plants, have been fitted with solar panels in a bid to increase their energy efficiency, reports state.
The panels absorb sunlight during the day, boosting the energy supplies of the organisations they serve.
In the area of Richmond, 89 panels were implemented, which will provide 35 per cent of the power needed by the water district.
General manager of West County
Wastewater E.J Shalaby stated: "The solar panels follow the sun, increasing the system's efficiency by up to 35 per cent compared to a similar-sized system mounted in a fixed position."
A similar operation in the district of Lake County has seen the panels introduced atop of two
wastewater plants, as well as the local county jail.
Meanwhile, California has attracted further attention for its green credentials of late, as Nectar, a firm based in the state, developed a blueprint for an energy-saving skyscraper.
