Environmental group Greenpeace has released information about its Energy [R]evolution, which it claims will enable countries to reduce carbon emissions by 95 per cent by 2050.
The initiative, which involves the work of more than 30 scientists, aims to enable significant emissions reduction while respecting natural restrictions and investment expenses.
A spokesperson for Greenpeace said: "Using only existing technologies, it charts a course by which we can get from where we are now, to where we need to be."
Other goals of the project include creating 12 million jobs by 2030 and providing power to two billion people who are currently without a reliable access to energy.
It also aims to share the costs under a global regime for climate change and prevent damage to the environment caused by oil spills and accidents at coal mines.
Last month, Greenpeace activists scaled the BP headquarters in London to protest against the oil company's decisions in attempting to contain the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
