From the 15-19 June 2015, Achema will once again take centre stage as the leading international fair for the process industry. Besides the three focal themes, the hot topics of the world forum of the process industry are energy efficiency, materials and materials testing, and safety technology.

ACHEMA is the world forum for chemical engineering, process engineering and biotechnology. Every three years the world’s major fair for the process industry attracts around 4,000 exhibitors from over 50 different countries to present new products, processes and services to professionals from all over the world. The spectrum ranges from laboratory equipment, pumps and analytical devices to packaging machinery, boilers and stirrers through to safety technology, materials and software, thus covering the entire needs of the chemical, pharmaceutical and food production industries. The accompanying congress, featuring 800 scientific lectures and numerous guest and partner events, complements the wide range of themes of the exhibition.
Focal Themes at ACHEMA 2015

For the first time ACHEMA 2015 is training the spotlight on three major themes: Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Industrial Water Engineering and Biobased Production will be the highlights of the world’s leading event for the process industry set to take place from 15 to 19 June 2015 in Frankfurt am Main. It goes without saying that other areas, from laboratory and analytical techniques to packaging machinery, from pumps, valves and fittings to the complete range of process engineering through to plant engineering and construction, will also come into their own. DECHEMA is now accepting applications from exhibitors.

“By selecting three focal themes, we are doing justice to the immense spectrum of ACHEMA, while spotlighting developments that will radically transform the process industry”, explains Dr. Thomas Scheuring, CEO of DECHEMA Ausstellungs-GmbH. Practically all areas of the process industry are affected by these focal themes. Special publications and the Congress programme will also focus on innovations in these areas which cut across all exhibition groups.

Process Analytical Technology (PAT) covers far more than “only” real-time measurement. PAT provides input for process optimisation and automation, without which the fundamental changes in process control, such as QBD (Quality by Design), would not be possible. To exhaust all the potential, it will require the concerted efforts of many disciplines and players, ranging from laboratory and analytical techniques to instrumentation and control through to process developers and component suppliers.

Industrial Water Engineering is yet another topic at the top of the agenda worldwide. Whether it be zero liquid discharge or low-emission production, it is no longer just a matter of putting a filter on a waste pipe. Instead, developments are targeting concepts for cost- and energy-efficient integrated water management. The key issues are recovery of energy, resources and valuable products, the handling of concentrates, and the planning and management of water and material flows. These concerns are driving process engineers and materials scientists no less than chemists, system designers and control experts. New production processes and fast-growing industries, such as industrial biotechnology, engender new challenges which, in turn, place new demands on industrial water engineering.

As in 2012, Biobased World is the umbrella term for biobased production which continues to be an important theme for research and industry. The transition to a biobased economy is inconceivable without biotechnological methods. Not only research and process development, but also component producers, plant manufacturers and instrument and control technicians are under pressure to make the vision of a bioeconomy become a reality. ACHEMA showcases the whole spectrum of players and is an indispensable forum for forging contacts and discussing new developments. BiobasedWorld will also be a prominent feature of the congress.
A First at ACHEMA – the PRAXIS Forums

The ACHEMA PRAXISforums will focus on industrial applications, trends, novel products and services in chemical engineering, biotechnology and the process industry. Here, market- and practice-oriented presentations will be held in the direct vicinity of the exhibition groups concerned.

The PRAXISforums will feature first-hand accounts of tried-and-tested solutions. Practitioners and experts from the sector will hold short presentations on themes covered by the exhibition groups, for instance process analytical technologies, plant components, plant control, laboratory and analytical techniques, safety, mixing and separation, pharmaceutical production and single-use technologies.

The PRAXISforums offer manufacturers, suppliers and users a unique opportunity to fi nd out about the latest trends, technologies and innovations and to communicate directly with experts who deal with similar issues both across all industries and along the value chain. Further questions concerning potential solutions and their compliance with standards can be discussed during the PRAXISforums or in-depth directly at the exhibition stands.

Make the most of the PRAXISforums to learn about new developments, trends and products in your sector that meet highly specific requirements of everyday practice. Participation in the PRAXISforums is free of charge to all ACHEMA visitors with a valid day or season ticket.
Panel Discussion - Bioeconomy in the Shale-Gas Trap?

Wednesday, 17 June 2015 13:30 – 15:00, Hall 4.0, Room Europa – German speaking

Only a few years ago it seemed quite clear that there was no alternative to a biobased economy. Then came shale gas and with it disillusionment. How are cheap resources impacting the young bioeconomy? Is it conceivable that new opportunities will open up in market segments that do not cash in on shale gas? Or will the world wake up too late from its shale-gas euphoria and miss the development of biobased processes which, in the long term, will be needed after all? And how long will the boom last? Experts from resources management, engineering and the biotechnology sector will discuss these questions.
